VOLUSIA COUNTY SCHOOLS-CELLULAR PROCEDURE
Volusia County Schools recognizes the right of all students to possess a cell phone, electronic pager or other wireless communications device while on a school campus or while riding district student transportation. However, to prevent disruption of school and instructional activities, Volusia County Schools restricts the use of such devices by students as follows.
- High school students may possess a cell phone, electronic pager or other wireless communication devices while on a school campus but shall be only permitted to use the device before the school day, during passing the time between classes, during lunch and after the end of the school day.
- While students are permitted to use the devices mentioned above, such use is strongly discouraged. If a student is tardy to class and was using one of the devices the action taken due to the tardy may include, but not limited to confiscation of the device under the terms of this procedure.
- Students are strictly prohibited from using the mentioned devices at any time in a locker room, restroom, while riding district student transportation, during instructional /class time, or during special activities such as pep rallies, assemblies, plays, etc.
- During instructional/class time or special activities at the school, students are required to keep the devices out of view and are strictly prohibited from using wireless devices in any manner without the express permission of an administrator.
