David Howard- Head Varsity Coach
It’s a great day to be a HAWK! Coach Howard has embraced the Hawk experience and is proud to be back as a valuable part of his alma mater. He believes the student should always be first and leading by example is the standard. Coach Howard has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Bethune-Cookman University and a M. S. Degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. He is passionate about athletics and credits many of his past coaches with helping him develop his strategic athletic knowledge as well as learning valuable life lessons through competition. His coaching experience spans 34 years locally at various places including Daytona State, Atlantic High, Creekside Middle, Campbell Middle, Silver Sands Middle, Elite Hawks AAU, Bridge Builder’s Program, and many recreation leagues. His commitment to basketball is focused on maximizing athletic potential, emphasizing academic achievement, application of critical thinking, and discipline. Coach Howard has been married to his college sweetheart for 38 years. They are best friends, sharing 3 children and 3 grandchildren. He believes that every season is a new adventure waiting to unfold and that his destiny in leadership cultivating student athletes is always based on God’s plan.
John Wise- Assistant Coach
Coach Wise is beginning his fourth year as a volunteer basketball coach at Spruce Creek High School. He attended Haverford High School, in a suburb of Philadelphia, where he played basketball, and the team won a state championship. Upon graduation from Bloomsburg State College where he played basketball Coach Wise returned to the Haverford School System and coached the junior high team for two undefeated seasons and scouted and recruited for the University of Pennsylvania. The next season he was hired by PMC Colleges, now Widener University, a division three school in Chester, Pennsylvania as the assistant coach and head freshman coach. While there his teams had an 80% winning record, and in an undefeated season defeated Saint Joseph’s University’s freshman team, a division one school, whose varsity was ranked in the top 20 nationally. For the next decade and a half, he was a head coach on the junior college level. First at Delaware County Community College and then Philadelphia Community College where his teams had winning records and were always ranked in the top 10 defensively nationally. He then took a hiatus from coaching to watch his own children develop their skills and play in high school. He was asked to come out of retirement and coach at Harrington High School which only won 17 games in the previous 10 years. In the first year of Coach Wise’s tenure the team won their first seven games and went on to place in the elite eight in the state tournament. Coach Wise loves teaching basketball and watching each player become the best that he can be.
Tony Plowden- Head Varsity Assistant
Coach Tony Plowden is in his 11th year coaching with Coach Howard. Coach Howard spent a stint at Atlantic High School with Coach Howard. Coach Plowden is in his 26th year teaching. Coach Plowden is a support facilitator for 10th grade English. Coach Plowden holds a B.S. in Sociology and Public Administration from Edward Waters University and a master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University in Emotionally Handicapped. Coach Plowden is a newlywed, is married to the former Kender McElvin. Coach Plowden has a stepdaughter, Asacia, a son Marcel and a daughter Tyla, and a grand-daughter Reagan.

Anthony "AJ" Ammons- JV Head Coach
