Graduated from Spruce Creek in 1979 and played at Florida State University.

After college, Tom was a free agent with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers in 1984, however was released when Hall of Fame player Kellon Winslow came off of injured reserve the week of the first regular season game.

After San Diego, Tom signed with the USFL’s Orlando Renegades in 1985. where he played for Head Coach Lee Corso. (who is now a sports commentator on ESPN’s “College Game Day”,)

As of this writing (2008), Tom is a high school football coach in Bainbridge Georgia in his 19th year overall.
