Bruce Edward McNorton
1977 Graduate of Spruce Creek High School

Born in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Sophomore: played JV football at Mainland and varsity football at Spruce Creek his Jr. & Sr. years.

Bruce played cornerback, safety and wide receiver at Spruce Creek wearing #24.  In 1976, Bruce scored a touchdown against Lake Brantley by recovering a teammate's fumble. 

Other activities included: A.A.S.U. Parliamentarian (Sr.), Spanish (Sr.), Track (Jr, Sr.), French (Sr.).

He attended Georgetown College (Kentucky) where he was one of the top kickoff returners in the nation (40.6 yard average) and set the school record with 42 career interceptions.  He played in the Senior Bowl in 1981. He was selected to the Georgetown College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000.

Drafted #4 by the Detroit Lions in 1982, he was one of the first players ever drafted from Georgetown.  Playing cornerback at 5'-11" and 175 lbs. for the Detroit Lions in the NFL for 10 years, he helped the Lions to a division title in 1983.  His 7 interceptions in 1983 tied him for the NFL lead in that category.  He was one of the all time great defensive backs for the Lions.

As of this writing (2007), he is a college scout for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
