Joe Hergert
Head Coach 1991-1993

Coach Hergert was the eighth Head Football Coach at Spruce Creek serving from 1991-1993. 

He played football at Mainland High School.  At the University of Florida , he played center.  One of Coach Hergert's teammates at Mainland in the 1950's was former Creek Head Coach Ramey.  Coach Hergert was drafted by the Greeen Bay Packers in 1959.  He played for two years (19 games) with the Buffalo Bills as their starting linebacker and placekicker.   In 1961-62 with Buffalo, Joe Hergert had 34 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 1 fumble recovery, 2 interceptions and kicked 8 field goals.

As head coach at Mainland Jr. High School, he won two County Championships in the  late 1960's.  Coach Hergert went to Colorado where he served 11 years as Head Coach of the Salida High Schooland won two State Championships in the  1970's.  Salida High School went to the playoffs nine times while Coach Hergert was there. Coach Hergert served as Offensive Coordinator at Mainland in 1990 where the team went 10-1.

Prior to coming to Spruce Creek, Coach Hergert's record was: 99 wins, 32 losses.

In 1993, the Hawks finished their regular season 6-4 with a four-way tie for second in Class 5A District 4 competition with Oviedo, DeLand and Lake Howell.  In a  one quarter game followed by two "Kansas tie-breaker"  overtimes , Creek came up short when Oviedo scored on a two point conversion.   Oviedo went on to the State playoffs as District Runner-up.

The Hawks record  from 1991-1993 was 9- 21.
