Todd Sparger
Principal
Dr. Todd Sparger has been a professional educator for over 20 years. He became principal of Spruce Creek High School in 2010, after having taught social studies here from 1994 to 1999. As principal, his highest priority will be to maintain the academic focus and create an outstanding learning environment for all Spruce Creek High school students. In addition, he has a proven record of commitment to athletics, the arts, and active community service.
Dr. Sparger earned his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. He earned both his master and doctoral degrees from the University of Central Florida. He is certified in social studies and educational leadership. Dr. Sparger is a graduate of Volusia County’s Principal Internship program and holds certification as a school principal. For the past 10 years, he has served as a high school assistant principal. Dr. Sparger has been recognized as Volusia County’s outstanding Social Studies teacher and was presented an outstanding administrator award from the Volusia Council of Guidance Counselors.
Born in Palm Beach County, Dr. Sparger is a graduate of Jupiter High School. After graduating from college, he taught five years for the Cobb County (GA) school system. He has lived in the Port Orange area since 1994 and is involved in many community events. His wife Kimberly has been a classroom teacher for 15 years and is currently working at Creekside Middle School. They are the proud parents of two daughters – Courtney and Lauryn.

Dwayne Copeland
Asst. Principal / 9th Grade
Dwayne Copeland is beginning his 15th year as a professional educator with Volusia County Schools. Prior to joining the Spruce Creek family, he served as assistant principal at Silver Sands Middle School, Hurst (Champion) Elementary and Westside Elementary. Prior to being an assistant principal, Mr. Copeland was a teacher and behavior specialist at Palm Terrace Elementary. Mr. Copeland is a graduate of Bethune-Cookman University (1997) and Nova Southeastern University (2001). His responsibilities at Spruce Creek High School include 9th grade student discipline, transportation, state end of course testing coordinator, professional learning community contact for Algebra, Biology and Geometry, volunteer and business partner coordinator, as well as campus and activity supervision.
Mr. Copeland has three children; Kymberlee (17 years old), Dwayne, Jr. “DJ” (15 years old) and Isaiah (7 years old).

Susan Gangi
Asst. Principal
Mrs. Gangi serves as the Assistant Principal for Curriculum Instruction and Accountability. Mrs. Gangi has been in education for 40 years, beginning in a suburb of Chicago in 1970 and has been a part of team Volusia since 1980. She has taught grades K-5 as well as served as an Elementary Resource teacher at Turie T. Small. Mrs. Gangi entered into administration in 2001 and completed the Principal Intern program in 2006. Her focus is curriculum with the goal of maintaining the high standards of this school and assisting to continue to show learning goals with all students.
Mrs. Gangi completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at Northern Illinois University and her Masters of Education Educational Leadership was from the University of Central Florida.
“My husband and I have had 7 children and have 4 grandchildren with one on the way!” Having spent the most part of her life in education and raising children, she is excited about the opportunity of working with high school students. “Every day I come to work I learn something from someone and am excited to be afforded this opportunity to be promoted to high school.”

Joe Piggotte
Asst. Principal / Dean's Office 12th Grade
Joe Piggotte coordinates student discipline for the Dean's Office and manages substitute teachers. He ensures that classrooms are filled when teachers are absent. In addition, he supervises campus and after-school activities.
Mr. Piggotte began teaching at Spruce Creek High School in 1979; he also coached basketball. He went on to teach math and physical education at Seabreeze High School until 1990. He has served as an assistant principal from 1991 to 2003 at Deltona, New Smyrna Beach, and Seabreeze High Schools. Spruce Creek has been his home since 2003. Mr. Piggotte graduated from Stetson University with a B.S. Degree, and he holds an M.S. Degree from Nova University in administration and supervision.

Jeff Reaves
Asst. Principal (Exceptional Student Education)
Jeff Reaves has served in Volusia County Schools for seven years. He started at Deltona High School as an Exceptional Student Education (ESE) teacher before transferring to New Smyrna Beach Middle School. Mr. Reaves also served a year at Storefront West in the dropout prevention program. Then return to New Smyrna Beach Middle as an administrator over curriculum and testing, before transitioning back to ESE.
He earned his Bachelor degree from Warner Southern College in Organization Management. Mr. Reaves also has a Master of Arts degree in Religion from Liberty University as well as a Master of Science degree in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Family, to Mr. Reaves, has been a top priority. He has enjoyed 25 years with his wife. They have three sons; two of which are graduates of Spruce Creek High. All three sons are Eagle Scouts. His oldest son, Jeff Jr (04 Creek grad) is a graduate from UCF, married and is serving in the United States Army, while Jimmy, a senior and Nathan (09 Creek grad) a junior are completing their degrees at Florida State University. Jimmy is in Army ROTC and will be commissioned next spring.
Each day is an opportunity to make a difference in a young person’s life. I am looking forward to a great year. It’s exciting to be here at Spruce Creek High School…Go Hawks!

Doug Swayze
Student Services (TOA), Q-Team House Leader
Mr. Swayze is a graduate of Appling Co. High School. He earned his B.A. degree in Business from Warner University and his M.S in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. During his tenure with Volusia County, he has been a APEX lab Manager, Career Connections Facilitator, and has taught high school Physical science and Biology.
As the Q-team Student Advocate, Mr. Swayze handles attendance, disciplinary, and special needs issues for 9th and 10th grade students on the Q-team. The Q-team is made up of students needing to show marked improvement on the FCAT test.
Mr. Swayze has two children: Sara and Ethan. Mr. Swayze enjoys spending his free time in the surrounding countryside 4x4ing, camping, hunting, and fishing.

Mark Tweedy
Asst. Principal / Dean's Office 10th & 11th Grades
Mr. Tweedy is a graduate of Mainland High School. He earned his B.A. degree in Business from Warner University and his M.S in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University. During his tenure with Volusia County, he has been a reading coach, has taught high school Language Arts and middle school Social Studies.
As the 10th and 11th grade Dean, Mr. Tweedy handles disciplinary issues for 10th and 11th grade students and coordinates the ISS program and extended detentions. He is also responsible for overseeing presentations on benefits, bloodborne pathogens and right to know. Mr. Tweedy oversees the distribution of lockers and is the Director of the Sports Medicine Program.
Mr. Tweedy is married to Sandra Tweedy, a teacher at Spruce Creek and has two sons: Brandon, a Spruce Creek graduate and Tyler who is a junior at Creek. The Tweedys enjoy spending their free time at their cabin in the Georgia mountains where they enjoy all outside activities and just relaxing.

Thomas Vaughan
Asst. Principal
Mr. Vaughan is serving in his 14th year of education. Prior to coming to Spruce Creek High School, he served four years as an administrator at David C. Hinson, Sr. Middle School. There he gained experiences in curriculum, scheduling, testing, and discipline. Mr. Vaughan started his career at Atlantic High School where he taught Biological Sciences for 9 years and led the Science Department during the last three years prior to his appointment as an Assistant Principal to Hinson Middle. While at Atlantic, Mr. Vaughan also coached girls cross country (8 years), sponsored the SGA (5 years), and was an Assistant Athletic Trainer (5 years).
Mr. Vaughan is happy to be back at the nest, as he is a Hawk Alumnus (class of ’89). After graduating from Spruce Creek, he went on to earn his Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences from The Florida State University. Later, during his tenure as a teacher, Mr. Vaughan earned his Masters Degree in Education Leadership from Stetson University.
