Spruce Creek High School
FCAT Science Policy 2010

Students,

The FCAT Science is designed to measure student knowledge of specific science content required for graduation in Florida. As with all your academic efforts, the teachers at Creek want you to do well. The science teachers have created a review program for all juniors for the mornings of March 9 and 10. This review program is designed to refresh your memory and add to your knowledge of tested science concepts immediately prior to the test on March 11. Since it is a graduation requirement for all students to have learned the Sunshine State Standards in high school, your performance on the FCAT science will have a direct impact on your senior year at Creek.

Students who score a 3, 4, or 5 on FCAT science are considered to have mastered the science Sunshine State Standards required for graduation. Students who score a 1 or 2 or who do not take the test will be required to participate in a science program during their senior year. Components of this science mastery program are:

  1. Take an additional science class in 12th grade for the purpose of remediation in science OR attend mandatory tutoring sessions during lunchtime.
  2. The science class will not be an honors credit course, thus impacting the GPA calculation.
  3. Any student needing remediation in science will not be eligible to be an office aid.
  4. Any student required to attend mandatory tutoring sessions during lunchtime will not be eligible for an off-campus lunch pass.

Remember, as with any test the goal is for you to do your very best! Your performance during the science review program and on FCAT science are opportunities for you to demonstrate how much you have learned at Creek. Do your best – it counts!
